The CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact them in their local area. It trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to focus on more complex tasks. While CERT volunteers are trained to respond safely, responsibly, and effectively to emergencies, they can also support their communities during non-emergency events if called to service.
The CERT Basic Academy consists of 24 hours of training time and is open to anyone at least 16 years of age, regardless of physical ability.
Arvada CERT Basic Academy Training also includes 8 hours of field training in activities such as small fire suppression and light search and rescue.
